A blood moon and total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow and creates a reddish hue on the Moon, which is a reflection of sunlight from the Earth’s atmosphere. A blood moon can only occur when there is a total lunar eclipse. Being that the Moon is in closer proximity to the Earth, it’s called a Supermoon. The effects of the lunation can be felt more by us earthlings due to the fact that the Moon is hanging lower than ever to the Earth.
